Pretty innovative stuff. Hopefully more artists will follow suit. Obviously it won't work for HUGE artists, but for semi-popular bands this is a great idea.
BTW, I should add that this isn't BS.

I just read about Jill Sobule doing something similar: you can get different packages where she records an answering machine message for you, or does a concert in your living room, or you can sing a duet on her album.

Overall, I'd say that the Josh Freese one gives you more bang for your buck.
