It is easy to see what Obama is going for here. A huge part of what is going to turn things around is restoring confidence, and having a hugely popular commander in chief in America's living room reassuring people that work is being done and things are going to turn around is a good thing.
After 8 years of Bush trying to hide from direct press interaction, this is a welcome change.
