Apparently you aren't grasping the notion of a hypothetical. The "scary situation" was raised as part of a hypothetical, which means it's not real. Nobody has said that what we know so far has created a scary situation, what has been said is that an employer who has access to sensitive information and doesn't care how it's treated presents a real problem. If this guys employer laughed this off and generally didn't care what his employees did with this info I'd consider that fairly scary, there's plenty that can be done quite easily if someone has the right personal information.
