Canada would run that company right into the ground, or worse, into the pockets of taxpayers repeatedly. If the CAW/UAW can run juggernauts like GM into the ground, imagine what they'd do to some upstart. If they weren't involved in the process, then why should GM/Ford/Chrysler be tied to that cashflow-killing dinosaur?
Chrysler is absolutely right. GM and Ford should jump on this bandwagon right away. There is absolutely no reason auto workers should be reeling in a compensation package worth over $75/hr, especially if foreign rivals are "breaking even" at a total package closer to $50/hr.
Frankly, the difference in craftsmanship between a North American built vehicle (this means Toyota too), and one built in Europe/Japan is palpable. While some people might say its not fair to compare a BMW to a Canadian built Toyota or Pontiac, their sticker prices have become comparable and door rattles/superficial issues are no longer acceptable to the consumer. Note that BMW isn't losing money.
