I don't think the Lions are going to risk it either. Here is a formula that somebody at ESPN developed to rate if a college QB will be an NFL QB or a bust.

Stafford is at the Bust portion of the list. A follow up to this piece explained that Stafford's freshman statistics skewed the numbers away from Stafford's favor. Which some readers didn't feel was fair since a QB like Sanchez didn't start as a freshman. If you remove Stafford's freshman year, he falls into the Hit or Miss category.
