I echo the 5 grand thing. I was able to get my wife a designed/original ring with (what I think is anyways) a half-decent cdn diamond in it - for probably at least half of what you are aiming to pay.
I do understand that for different people, the ring/diamond have different requirements. That's fine, if you need to spend more in that regard. But just moreso a heads up that you can get quite a nice ring and diamond for a fair bit less than you are planning to spend. You just have to figure out what is important to you, etc.

Clarkey makes some good points here. Again it depends on what you want/are looking for, but....my jeweler said the same idea. Again it depends, but if you aren't going to be able to see things under a microscope (or whatever they use), or even to the untrained eye (which is nearly everyone)....then....well....
