Is this something that's easy to do?

In my mind I'm thinking of taking a flat image file and slicing it up and creating the markup and CSS from scratch, seems like a lot of work.

If done properly in Illustrator, is there a way to do it that is more automatic; or at least gets a start on getting it done?
