The review in the Herald suggested the story was a little hard to follow if you don't know the comic.
To use a rather weird comparison it is kind of like Harry Potter (only it is the greatest comic ever, not a lame kids book). If you've read the book you'll get it, but having read the book some of the loose ends get tied up because you know that scene b was taken out and the movie goes straight from scene a to c in the movie.
