Well, I think Cruise has gone off the deep end but I like many of his movies anyway - not all - and from what we're hearing early, it seems like Spielberg has taken another Great Leap Forward in movie making with "War Of The Worlds" so I'll be there to watch it.
But going forward I would agree with nfoitu that stuff like this will either gain him notoriety, which might help his career, or it might sink him deeper than the Titanic.

Can't really see this being the "good" kind of notoriety. People can forgive, or even be entranced by a guy who beats up reporters or throws telephones at concierges, but crazy, goofy, cult recruiter has about as much appeal as someone sleeping in the same bed with a bunch of little boys.
