What's up CP. Normally I wouldn't make such a...silly thread but really I am just seeking advice since this seems like a smart, educated community. So here goes...
Me and my ex broke up 8 months ago. We had 2 cats at the time, and we agreed that she would keep one of the cats, and I would keep the other. Nothing was signed, it was a verbal agreement. To make a long story short, last week she got a hold of me at work and asked if I could give her my cat back. Of course I said no, why the hell would I give away my kitty??
Then tonight I get home and she calls me and says that she wants my cat back still. Apparently, she called the vet I got her fixed at, and the vet told her that she was listed as the primary owner. I paid for the cat and everything, but she listed herself as the owner, at the time it didnt' matter. She is so intent on getting my cat back that she claims that since she is listed as the primary owner, that LEGALLY she can take it back at anytime. I asked her what is to prevent me from simply walking to the vet, which is right across my street, and changing it over to my name. Apparently she called 311 # and they told her that she would have to come with me to do it. And if she refuses to cooperate, then it becomes a matter for the courts. I looked at my vet documents, and unfortunately she is right. My name does not appear on the ownership documents, only her name.
Now this is just silly. To go to court over a cat??? Sounds silly, I know. But she is totally the type of girl who will waste both of our lives to do something as ######ed as this. Apparently 311 also told her that since is listed as the primary owner, that she can technically show up at my house with the cops and document in hand, and take it away.
Now the LAST thing I need is the cops showing up, in front of my neighbors, and me making a big scene if they take my cat away. I know she is doing this to smite me, and I can't go to the vet tomorrow to check it out since I have class tomorrow night, but I will wednesday to see waht my options are. This is such a stupid and ######ed situation, that I am pretty livid over her actions.
So....what can I do? What can she do? What can happen according to the law? I just want her to leave me the F alone, but I know her, and she will probably take it as far as she can. It's been 8 months and we both agreed I would keep the cat, yet now she pulls this crap. I love my cat more then I love myself and the LAST thing I need is for her to be taken away....
