The fact he chose Nightwing as a sidekick instead of a hero (Nightwing isn't a sidekick) it kinda makes me lean to him choosing Dick Grayson as Robin/Nightwing.

You forgot to use
IMO with this. I think Nightwing will always be Batman's sidekick. Robin is obviously his sidekick but Nightwing returns to Gotham again and again to fight alongside his old mentor.
