The saddest thing is the whole series is (and has been admitted to by the author) a complete projection of the authors secret desires.
Not only is it one-dimensional pap, it also promotes mysoginy, subordination to men, and on more of a stretch, statuatory rape (the vampire in question is 100+ years old, the girl is 16/17).
Oh and it has a bazillion forced allusions to hardcore Christianity, and the book is a thinly-veiled rail against unwed sex.
For serious. Google any of these claims, they are so true it's sad.
