I knew absolutely NOTHING about firearms before I took my course. I ended up with 100% on both written tests and 100 and 98% on the handling / practical tests. It is really all very easy. If I remember correctly, the written tests were a mix of multiple choice and true/false. Read the books once or twice and know ACTS and PROVE inside out.

*EDIT*: Actually, now that I think back on it, there are a few tricky questions about specific laws, so know those really well as well.
