From what I remember they taught you the course and then you took the test the next night, or else it was a full day course where you took the course and then did the test. I only got my license because I worked at a Canadian Tire that sold firearms and the new rules stated that only peeps with a PAL could show and sell a firearm.

I'm not sure how it goes now, but for the first couple of years it was a pain in the butt to sell firearms. I had to get the persons PAL and another piece of ID, write all the info down, call Miramchi, wait forever, then walk the person to the door once the gun was sold. It took a few hours to do.
