Ottawa is awesome on Canada Day.
Stay away from the Asian restaurants in Ottawa - they just aren't very good at all. Take this from an Asian guy... but the vietnamese noodle soup (pho) is the best I've had in Canada, so if you like that, check that out... Pho Bo Ga L.A. on Somerset (there's two, go to the newer one) is probably the best one...
Plenty of other good restaurants that are in the area though... Restaurant Les Fougeres in Chelsea is good and Trattoria on Preston Street is a great place for Italian.
Other than that, lots of great museums to check out in Ottawa as mentioned... party scene is very weak, so do that in Montreal... oh and check out the casino in Hull (Casino du lac leamy)... nice place!
