I think that this crash was more the fault of the airplane, and not the fault of the airline. The Q400's seem to have a bad track record:

While they had some scary problems with the mains not locking in place the Dash 8 has been a very reliable aircraft and for it to go down like that suggests some kind of catastrophic airframe failure IMO. these things can fly forever on one engine and glide a long way with total loss of power.
