Pioneer is quitting the entire business (not even selling LCDs or Panasonic/Matsua branded Plasmas as previously stated) and closing down a factory and laying off workers because of huge losses from the recession hitting Japan hard.

This is really sad, Pioneer was always one of my favorite brands for anything home theatre related.

LED backlit screens still have terrible black levels and backlight bleed. OLED is where it's at but nobody is mass producing large size screens because nobody has or wants to spend the extra cash to retool all their plants from LCD production which is saturated. Why spend cash on making better technology when you can sell the same old, same old to consumers who keep buying LCDs...sigh.
