Heres a cool gif tracking the 2 objects before collision. Really shows how unlikely it is that anything up there collides. As much stuff as there is the volume of space up there is massive in comparison.

Yeah other objects have collided before but they are usually rocket boosters and scraps and stuff. This was the first time it was satellites I believe.
