I saw Coraline this weekend (in 3D), and really liked it. Definitely the best stop-motion film since Nightmare Before Christmas. It's just such a great story, (although it's too bad that the story was diluted somewhat with an extra character, but I can see why they felt it was necessary for the film). It had a lot of moments in it that felt like they were influenced by Svankmejer or Brothers Quay. The expanding tunnel that connects the two worlds that Coraline travels between, for example, is brilliantly done; or when a kettle's steam is done with some sort of cotton netting. And the scenes with the Burlesque show and the Mouse Circus were great.

I also liked the fact that it didn't overuse the 3D animation effects. There's one point in the title sequence where the animation is in your face, but for the most part, it resists the urge to remind you that you're watching a 3D film. It does brilliantly captures the depth of the stop-motion world. I'm looking forward to seeing it in 2D though, to see if it still has the same impact.
