This comes down to personal preference IMO. If you listen to The Bends or Pablo Honey vs. Kid A, Amnesiac etc..... well there's a pretty big progression in their sounds. Those first two records were more alternative, guitar-driven.... their later material has steered away from that (I'll admit that I haven't listed to In Rainbows yet). Completely different sounds IMO.
Personally, I liked their earlier material a lot more than the stuff they've put out since Kid A but that's just me... I can see why others, including yourself, might feel differently.
