They're catering to women, and they know what woman are going to buy. IE They didn't say "let's pick anything, but market it well and girls will buy it, and oh, how abot these 5 guys, we'll call them the backstreet boys and they'll sing simple dancable songs that girls can sing along to and... hey look, it worked!"

You're right... unfortunately for some of us. These guys put incredible amounts of time and money into researching this stuff. Every once in a while they miss out on something, like the grunge "movement" for example. But once the mainstream picks up on it, then it is demographic-ized and marketed like anything else. I'll never forget the "grunge" fashion isssue of Vogue magazine a long time ago. We were already doing that for years. Hey I still wear my Docs every day... they're great boots.
