Richard said that wasn't possible as they choose their leaders from a young age. John then told him that we was going to be born in 2 years and Richard should visit him when he's a baby. So, here's my question. Does John crash onto the island and take his position as leader, or does he change his own future by going into the past and talking to Richard?
Would he even be on the island if "past John" didn't have that conversation with Richard in the first place?

With regards to the time travel, I think it was Ben that told Jack or someone that you cannot affect the path of people's lives, even if you do interact with them - Although it's entirely possible that I misunderstood that. I had completely forgotten about Richard visiting Locke.
One day I'm going to take a week off and spend it watching every episode of this show from start to finish. It's getting to be hard to remember everything. Homework for a TV show...Yuck.
