Some Famous-Musician Anecdotes:
1. Haha, I remember when I was in about grade 10 a friend of mine dragged me to the downtown HMV location where The Barenaked Ladies put on a free show. After the show the band exited the store and we were along the railing they passed by, where everyone could give the band five. Even though I thought they were ######bags I gave them five. They all had really sweaty palms.
2. I went to see Frank Black (former frontman of The Pixies/solo artist extraordnaire - he releases new material on an annual basis) play at Mac Hall. Before the show while we were waiting and sharing a bottle of gin (curses to whoever thought gin would be a good sipping liquor to smuggle in), Frank came wandering through the crowd and picked me out of everyone to randomly stop in front of, smile, and give me a friendly pat on the back. It was pretty rad.
3. Before a Radiohead show at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver in 2003, we got bored waiting in line to get in so we went exploring and found an area behind the stadium where the crew had done a poor job of connecting barricade fences. We snuck in through the gap and made our way into the venue, where the band was doing soundcheck. It was pretty awesome to be 2 lone people sitting in the middle of a giant empty football field watching Radiohead warm up. No one seemed to notice or care that we were there, so after the band finished and left the stage we made our way back that way and got past whatever light security they had in place (obviously, you don't really need security if no one is (supposed to be) around to keep the band secure from), and got up real close to the band, who were still in the process of making their way back to their trailer. We stood there agape - much of our amazement due simply to the fact that we'd gotten that far uncontested - and I greatly enjoyed that the band all gave me this "who the f--- is this stupid-looking fanboy??" look. Finally, someone important noticed we didn't have VIP lanyards on and promptly and rather guffly escorted us out... I had to talk us out of having our tickets for the night revoked. Still have pictures of all this somewhere.
