I mentioned this in a different thread, but I downloaded LogMeIn Ignition so i can remotely contact my computers at home and at work in addition to my parents computer. A little on the pricey side ($30), but the interface is clean and it works very quickly. I was using VNC lite for a time, and when it worked it did a good job. However, I changed routers and never fully figured out how to get it to work again and it never liked the security on my work computer. With LogMeIn I was up and running instantly (you only have to download logmein to the computers you need to control).
The control threw me for a loop at first, but I've come to greatly prefer it to to the alternative. The cursor remains fixed and you move the screen around it (as opposed to the other way around). you can then tap anywhere on the screen to send a click action. At first I wasn't sure if I'd like it but after a couple minutes it felt really nice.
There was one thing that I wished was made a little more clear (I had to dive into the manual on the website to figure it out). Your monitor settings will bog it down and it asks you to change the resolution on the computer you're trying to control. This is annoying if you have to log into the computer and then dive into the settings to change it. In actuality you change the screen resolution from the app itself, it changes it on the computer you're controlling, and then when you log off it returns the resolution to it's original state.
Strongly recommended.
