I used to hate using public washrooms, or really any washroom that I wasn't comfortable in. On vacation I once went a whole week without taking a dump just to avoid using the bathroom on the boat I was on. I held it 'til I got home.
Anyways, after coming to live in China I've gotten used to very different standards in terms of public washrooms. I'm happy to accept things that I wouldn't have considered before. I remember when I first arrived in Shanghai to do a homestay and the bathroom in my homestay's apartment wasn't working so I had to go use a public one. I walked in and not only were the toilets all squatters, but the stalls were only about 3&1/2 feet high, had no doors and seemed to be made so that your head would be poking out of the stall into the rest of the bathroom. I had never before thought of a 'public toilet' in such a literal sense.
