Outside of hockey, boxing, iron-man, most sports don't even come close. It's definitely not one where being a fat-ass is a non-issue (read baseball).
And hey, it's dirt cheap to play. All you need is a roundish object.

quick points, there is no sprint for the full time, I would suggest there are a number of other sports that are as physically challanging if not more so:
- Rugby: all players are required to have a large aerobic and anaerobic capacity, as well as significant strenght
- Lacrosse: I would suggest both box and field are challenging
- Wrestling (olympic or grecco roman): very well conditioned
I could go on, and all of the above are cheap (lacrosse does require eqiupment).
