He's up there. Probably more well known than Tiger Woods. Soccer is the most popular sport, Beckham is or was the most popular player. My suggestion might have been a little out of date but beyond that it was pretty solid.
But you pretty much proved my point. Bob Hope supported American troops and is an American icon and he wouldn't even be the most recognizable person in America, let alone the world.
