Fringe
Anyone else watching this series? New episodes on again tonight after a couple months off. I wouldn't have watched the first episode except that it was on after House, and even after seeing the pilot, I was pretty 'meh' about it, but after a couple weeks it really started to grow on me, and now both my wife and I would list it as our favorite show on TV.
(For anyone not familiar with it, it follows an FBI investigatory team with a pretty (but somewhat cold) blond, a scientist who's spent the last 15 years in a mental institution, and his son and legal guardian, all of whom are are investigating a series of terrorist-like attacks that are rooted in fringe science. It currently seems that these attacks are actually proofs-of-concept for scientific information that's being sold on some sort of black market.)
I've been a fan of John Noble's ever since his Lord of the Rings role, and his character here is the best part of the show; unlike so many supervillain portrayals of mad scientists, Walter Bishop is a character who's psychosis seems quite plausible and real (unlike so much of the show), rather than being a caricature of madness. The best scenes aren't the shocking or gross-out attack sequences, but the conversations between Walter and his son or between Walter and Olivia.
Anyway, I realize it's critically received fairly mixed reviews, and I imagine there are a lot of people out there who hate it. But I just wanted to see if there are any other fans of the show on CP.
