That was a contract from the days of Agents. Problem those days was that pretty much all star players were taking home town discounts and bad teams were trying to sign anyone they could. I think Ekman got that contract when he was a 75OV player coming off a year where he had played with Thornton and Cheechoo. With the grid that would have been a 5 million dollar contract! Now he's probably the most overpaid CPHL player. Thats the risk of a 1 way 3 year contract. Frankly, I'm much more handcuffed by Karlis Skrastins contract than Calders. It's grid contracts awarded to players with ratings below 80 that kill teams. Especially to older guys on the decline.

Today's system makes it challenging to keep up a good team. If a team gets neglected or is too inactive they end up in trouble. In the old days the Oilers would have just stayed strong by doing very little. Now I'm going to have to committ one way or another to get back on track. Which is good. If only other GM's would smarten up and put a trade embargo on the Wild and Sharks and let Grant and Ryan fall on their swords too!
