^^ From what I have been told on the show "Mayday"- yes it is. At least for a jet. Smaller planes have landed on water; and theoretically something like a 727 that had its engines above wing level should be able to do it.

Next closest to successful was an Ethiopian jet that was hijacked, ran out of fuel, and landed in water off the coast of Africa. Something like 35 of the 120 people on board survived. The entire landing was captured on video by people on the beach a few 100 metres away.
