Be sure to get him to cough up for a nice tree, not some free sapling that the boyscouts hand out.

Take it one step further and go pick out the tree that you want, who you want to plant it (i.e. an arborist) and that you'll make the arrangements once he gives you the amount of the quote.

Do it quick as well.
