I posted in a hurry as I was on the way out for lunch. The "you guys" part of my post wasn't really the point I was trying to make, and I actually edited it before I left (although you quoted me before I was able to).
Talent is a pretty black and white thing. Either you can sing and play the guitar, or you can't. To say that John Mayer doesn't have talent is incorrect. To say he doesn't have "soul" or "grit" (as troutman pointed out) is a valid argument, as those are abstract qualities that can be debated, but questioning his talent is not right.
