I realize the writers are trying to depict tension between his good and evil sides, but they do a poor job IMO of making her a character that you would see attracting Dexter at all - Lila was a thousand times more believable as his lover than Rita will ever be.

The thing with Rita is that Dexter was chose her not because he was attracted to her but because he wanted someone emotionally unavailable that he could use to provide a cover of normalcy. He wanted her because he thought she'd never expect anything from him given her past and he wanted a girlfriend to enhance his persona of a normal person.
