One recommendation for somethi in economical in the summer is Writing on Stone in Southern Alberta, by Lethbridge and moreover Milk River. When I was young, we used to do tons of trips there. There are hoodoos there for kids to run around and adventure cool rock formations, satisfying the ADHD side of my 5 second attention span. There is also a beach by the river too for the kids to mess around in.
