Any of my friends who bought the Shaw SD PVR have said that they felt it was a bit of a waste of money, because eventually they will get an HDTV and then want the HDPVR.
And what is nice about already owning an HD box is that when you eventually get an HDTV, you don't have a $500 hit to get an HDTV. Let's say you are thinking of maybe a new TV for the living room, and you see what you think would normally be a $1400 TV on for $900. Sweet- you rush down and pick it up, but now you think you should get the HDPVR.
I know I had an HD receiver (not the PVR- my mistake) prior to getting an HDTV, and when I got my HDTV (won it in a draw) I was very happy to be able to just hook it up and it would work.
