I have the 720p version of that LG TV. Got it in September.

I was replacing a Dell (Phillips) 37" LCD. The ghosting bugs me- a lot. Not that it stays for long, but when my g/f turns off the karakoe I can see where the words were for a few minutes. I'm just waiting for the day it burns in.

If you watch a lot of Blu Ray movies, 1080p is the better option for sure. If you mostly watch broadcast TV, I can't see 1080p being standard for 2 years at best; more likely 4 years.
