Yeah, if it happens on external monitor then you know it isn't the screen.
If it happens before the OS even has a chance to load, it isn't a driver issue.
The only thing I would say is perhaps a corrupt BIOS, but if you can't even get into the most basic screen then it sounds FUBAR.
