So seems I need a new laptop PC. Looking for one that is ultra portable (thin and light), but still has a decent size screen (14") and an internal optical drive

Its primarily a work computer. Lots of the usual stuff - word processing, internet, e-mail, but a fair amount of graphics and image processing

what should i look for? A particular type or spec of display, AMD vs Intel, a particular chipset, longer battery life would be handy as well

prefer <$1000

Suggestions for a starting point. Thanks

my laptop was fine yesterday morning, i left it on while it was doing a virus scan, came back in the afternoon and the screen was all jumbled

I plugged it into an external monitor and the display was also jumbled

is my video card shot? can it be repaired or am i screwed?
