For those curious about the 6 month timeline and the continuation of the offence:

Provincial Offences Procedure Act:

Quote:
4(1) Subject to any express provision in another Act, no
proceedings to which this Act applies may be instituted more than
6 months after the time when the alleged offence occurred.
(2) In the case of an offence that is of a continuing nature, a
contravention constitutes a separate offence in respect of each day
or part of a day on which it continues and no proceedings may be
instituted more than 6 months after the last occurrence of the
alleged offence.
Traffic investigations do take time. Unfortunately, not all of them are from traffic stops where the cop witnesses the offence.

As far as the court sate issue, the date written on the ticket is a first appearance date. You can appear on or before that date to answer to the ticket (pay it, plead, talk to a JP). If you plead not guilty (at that date or by mail) a court date is set and the cop gets a subpoena.
