I didn't really have to pay for my undergrad degree, and I had considered that I might be more motivated to perform in my graduate work because I'm footing the bill instead of my generous parents. Turns out that when I'm footing the bill I don't feel any pressure to perform for grades, as I see myself only accountable to myself and I'm much more interested in the learning process than in academic results.
