It just doesn't mean as much as people think it does. It's not March Madness where it's #1 vs. #64.
Say Florida loses the SEC Championship. In a 16-team tournament that means a date with #13 Oklahoma State instead of #15 Georgia. It doesn't really mean a whole lot.
