I am not sure what other artists are like or their theories on tattooing. Casey is certainly one of a kind. His theory is quite simple...
I am the artist and it is MY art that I am putting on your body. With input from you (a theme or some other ideas) he will create his "art". If you like it, he will tattoo it. If you don't, go somewhere else. He will do some minor tweaks or changes but the general sketch will stay the same. Look at it this way, he has been doing it for a long time, if he is wanting to do his own twists or alterations, maybe your design is terrible and in the long run, it might be something that either won't look good or you will regret.
Do not go to him and ask him to do a Superman symbol or Calvin and Hobbes or something silly like that. He will certainly not be happy.
He is one of the top artists in Calgary and is well respected in the tattoo community. You don't have to like your artist to get good work.
