Be sure to keep in touch with the arresting officer, and have an incident number to refer to. As the victim you have rights to know what is happening with the accused, and even to know what was going on.
Odds are the guy was drunk or something, and thought that it was his buddy's house, or his step-father's house or something.
You might even want to look into getting a camera for outside. They aren't expensive these days, and it may help your family's peace of mind that anytime they hear something they can flick on the TV and see that there is just a car driving down the street. (or whatever.)
