I'd bet anything that the average net worth of the families of 75% of the golfers on the PGA tour is double or triple that of families of NBA or NFL players.
It does not matter how many scratch golfers you know because you don't know any golfers on the PGA tour. The point is that most of the professional tennis players and professional golfers came from money.
And of course there is no relation between skill and money but there sure as hell is a relation between money and ability to play. Like I said I'd be willing to bet just about anything that most golfers on the PGA tour were already upper class when they started golfing while most NBA, NFL and to a lesser extent NHL players were from either lower class or middle class families.
