Actually, I've been eating a lot of sweet potatoes for dinner lately so the complex carbs in those would be good for before. And then post-workout a latte made with 1% milk.

I'm not interested in any sort of supplements or things like that.

So what happens if you don't replenish your lost energy stores?
Switch your latte for a protein shake (protein mix and water). A latte doesn't have anything in it that will help you build any kind of fitness. Coffee is also a diuretic, so if you're doing a lot of cardio slugging back a bunch of caffeine right after is only going to make you MORE dehydrated. Do you ever get headaches?

Worst case scenario If you don't take in protein after a workout? You'll get skinny arms and a gut. I see girls do this all the time; they diet like mad, do hours on hours of cardio, lose loads of weight but still have a belly. The only way to optimize your workouts is through proper nutrition.

I've tried pretty much every diet, supplement (all the legal ones, anyways) and workout known to man, and there just is no substitute for proper nutrition. PM me if you want to know anything, I'm currently training with a guy who trains olympic athletes, national team athletes, professional athletes and he works with a professional dietician.

Working out is better than doing nothing, but if you want to see effective results get on a proper diet.
