Dude, that's BAD BAD advice. Whoever told you that probably doesn't know the first thing about fitness training or nutrition. Your body is in its most receptive state for up to 90 minutes after a workout, so what you put in during that time will help determine what you get out of a workout.
I've NEVER heard someone say you should wait to eat after training. Google "post workout nutrition" and you'll see what I mean. There are certain foods to AVOID, but not cut out food altogether.
