My wife and I were talking about this last night....Coming from Canada, CBC lets you immerse yourself in the event from start to finish. I've found watching NBC is like watching ESPN, just the highlights and the leaders. Last night while watching diving, they focused on the two female American divers listening to their walkmans while other competitors were jumping! NBC has to be aware that you create drama when you show the ENITRE EVENT.
transplant99----Did you watch the opening ceremonies? The commentary was atrocious. Katie Couric was like a clueless tourist not understanding the full magnitude of what she was seeing, and Bob "short man syndrome" Costas commented on every bad atrocity that had ever happened to the country as they filed into the stadium. And while Bjork sang a great song with a very nice visual show, Costas had to blab all over it.....I can understand homerism....NBC is America! But compared to other national telecasts, like CBC and I can imagine BBC, they show that there is other athletes and believe it or not other countries involved in the Olympics.
I wish I could find it, but there was a cartoon years ago that had the other Gumbel holding a microphone reporting a breaking story from that year's Olympics....The quote....
"This just in, NBC has learned there are other countries competing in this years events."
