Default Painting Red Walls, more specific Flames Red, need suggestions.

So i just bought a new condo and i want my living room flames red with an accent wall of black. I know there is a thread on this already but nobody has quite talked about primers.

I've went and picked up a red/pink primer from home depot. But lately i've discovered lots and lots of people suggesting that a grey primer is the best way to go for painting red saying that using the red/pink primer will take about 4-7 coats of red paint to get even and look good, while the grey will be about 2-3. If i have to i will throw out the pink primer and get grey if this is the case. I have 6 walls to do so i don't want to be doing 7 coats of red in a worst case scenario.

Any help, suggestions or stories about painting red walls?
