I still can't believe it myself, it's almost like a dream. I truly believed that Manny was in tough moving up in weight so much. His hand speed and movement were unaffected though and he actually weighed 148 1/2 lbs on fight day to De La Hoya's 147.
From the opening bell, it was clear that Manny was simply the quicker and better fighter and he pitched a shutout until De La Hoya quit. Who would have thought that the great Golden Boy would just quit and not fight to the end? The Golden Boy's legend is forever tarnished, while Manny has cemented himself among the the greats in the sport.
A buddy and I went to watch the fight at The Shark Club and the Filipinos there were celebrating like mad. Hot waitresses, fake boobies and Manny winning convincingly. Only drawback is that we did not bust some Mexican heads after.
