Never had to get it out of carpet, but keep in mind what happens to blood (and red meat) when it heats up, it cooks.
You want to keep it as cool as possible, and avoid friction as much as you can. For example when I have blood on clothes I will even drop a tray of ice cubes into the water.
So perhaps ice cold water mixed with Tide? And blot it, don't rub it. That's what I would do.
